A wonderful group came out to our second work party at Ntampqen Community Garden on syilx territory (near Cawston, BC) last weekend in April. We shared a lot of laughs, got a ton of work done, and enjoyed some incredible food together. Event Recap: Work Party at the Lower Similkameen Community Food Hub, Farm & Garden

Lower Similkameen Food Hub

On the last weekend of October, a small group gathered at the Lower Similkameen Community Food Hub, Farm and Garden on Syilx territory. We pitched in to grow the vision of a food production and processing site that is created by and for the community. We worked on building a new greenhouse, a smaller greenhouse, and a tool shed, planting garlic and protecting some young fruit trees. EVENT RECAP: Kootenay Farms Food Hub Tour

On Sunday, November 14th, the eighth event of the Young Agrarians 2021 Farm Club series took place virtually, offering viewers at home a tour of the Kootenay Farms Food Hub in Creston, unceded traditional territory of the Yaqan Nukiy. This event was a collaboration with Fields Forward Society. The tour provided an inside look at the new facility providing access to community-based processing equipment at affordable rates and an opportunity to ask the Hub’s Project Manager questions by chat on Zoom. These results reflect responses from 205 food producers and/or processors in BC. The Industry Survey is a supporting component of the BC Food Hub Network initiative led by the Ministry of Agriculture. More information on this initiative and development of the Industry Survey can be found below. Based on the response rate, the results were divided into regions – South Coast (Lower Mainland), Okanagan, Vancouver Island and Coast, and ‘Other’ which includes Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, Thompson Nicola, Kootenay, Omineca Skeena and Peace.
