BC vegetable farmers are wanted to respond to a survey about their farm management! The survey will include questions about field management practices, seed practices, technology use, and employment. The study is being conducted by Dr. Hannah Wittman (Principal Investigator), Susanna Klassen (Doctoral Candidate), and Chris Thoreau (Masters Student), from the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at the University of British Columbia.   Your responses will help us to better understand your experiences and the sustainability challenges facing vegetable farmers like you, and contribute to ongoing research out of the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm. Dallas Barnes and Anthony Csikos are a team of two recent UBC graduates determined to make eating local the norm. They hope to connect consumers directly to farms in their area through an online platform, think “digital farmer’s market”. Understanding that consumer preferences are changing and that the planet is struggling, these two are inspired to create a solution. These results reflect responses from 205 food producers and/or processors in BC. The Industry Survey is a supporting component of the BC Food Hub Network initiative led by the Ministry of Agriculture. More information on this initiative and development of the Industry Survey can be found below. Based on the response rate, the results were divided into regions – South Coast (Lower Mainland), Okanagan, Vancouver Island and Coast, and ‘Other’ which includes Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, Thompson Nicola, Kootenay, Omineca Skeena and Peace.
