The Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture is an environmental and food systems non-profit in North Saanich, BC. They steward 83 acres of land owned by the District of North Saanich, and manage an on-site incubator farm, ecological restoration project, community garden, and several education programs. Sandown works to support new-entrant farmers and increase awareness of regenerative practices in the larger community, with the understanding that regenerative agriculture is necessary to climate resilience and the creation of a sustainable food system. Young Agrarians is celebrating the tenth year of the Business Mentorship Network (BMN) program in BC and the second year of the program in the Prairies! The BMN offers business mentorships to a diverse array of new and young farmers. Through one-on-one mentorship, peer networks and online workshops young farmers develop the skills necessary to operate ecologically sustainable and financially viable farm businesses. Event Recap: Farm Tour & Seed Ceremony at Amara Farm

On a beautiful late summer day, we gathered with 52 community members at Amara Farm on unceded K’ómoks territory, also known as Courtenay, B.C. at a farm tour hosted through the B.C. Land Matching Program delivered by Young Agrarians. We enjoyed farm tours, talked about land access and farming collaboratively, shared food at a beautiful community potluck, and were honoured to participate in a surprise seed ceremony and offering for head Amara farmer Arzeena, led by Natasha of Minwaadizi Farm and her Auntie Sharon.
