Join us for a VIRTUAL field day at Coen Farm to learn about simple, low-cost, low-tech systems for harvesting snowmelt to improve your water resilience in a cold climate. During this video tour you will see over 3 km of swales, 40 million litres of water storage in ponds, dams, dugouts and wetlands, solar-powered water pumping, gravity water reticulation system, and energy-free livestock waterers. If the spring melt cooperates then there will also be a flood irrigation demonstration into one of the swales to water one of the farm’s food forests. Dr. Fred Provenza, the author of Nourishment: What Animals Can Teach Us about Rediscovering Our Nutritional Wisdom  will be on a workshop tour around Manitoba. WHEN: Saturday, April 4th 9:30 am to 4:00 pm WHERE: The Harvest Moon Learning Centre, Clearwater, MB WHAT: This workshop will cover: FARM & ENTERPRISE GOALS BREED & STRAIN SELECTION BASICS OF BROODING MANAGING POULTRY ON PASTURE POULTRY EQUIPMENT WINTER HOUSING REGISTRATION:  $75 per person (includes lunch). A great group of farmers and farmer friends came together during the third Young Agrarians Peace Country Mixer! Camp Tamarack was filled with laughter, knowledge, expertise, interesting and curious talk during the weekend of February 22nd and 23rd, 2020. Farmers traveled from far and wide to be part of the networking and education. The farmer speed dating was a great way for everyone to meet each other! Everyone walked away with a great number of connections after a Mixer! There is strength, kindness, knowledge, support, friendship, wisdom, resources and much more within any farming community. Thanks to the farms and friends who hosted and the generous support of Columbia Basin Trust, Young Agrarians was able to organize seven different on-farm and educational events across the region in 2019 and early 2020. We learned about tools, seed saving, nurseries, fermentation, mushrooms and more, we toured some groundbreaking farms, and we shared meals with new and old friends. Nearly 50 people joined Young Agrarians at Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort on Sunday, February 16, 2020, for a half-day of discussions all about farming and fungi! This inaugural event solely about MUSHROOMS filled up in two days after registration opened, with a waiting list. People joined us from as far away as Armstrong, Revelstoke and Naksup.
