Looking for an enthusiastic, organic veggie grower to manage a half-acre bistro garden on-site at the Summerhill Pyramid Winery in Kelowna, BC.
The ideal person will have some experience growing market variety vegetables using organic and permaculture methods. (If you have little experience, but are open to mentorship and learn quickly, please apply!) Also, some familiarity with biodynamic growing methods is helpful, but not required. Duties include: planning crop rotation, starting seedlings in greenhouse, managing irrigation schedules, planning soil amendments/organic fertilization, bed prep, weeding, seeding, harvests, coordination with chefs/bistro menu.
The position starts March 1st, 2015 and ends at the end of the growing season, usually end of October. The position demands, on average, between 35 – 40 hrs/wk. This is a paid position, compensation based on skills/experience.
There is much potential for the position to continue the following year, and beyond. There are options for on-site rental accommodations, and there are many interesting projects connected to the bistro garden including an active vermicomposting system, an apiary, and a newly established forest garden.
