ABOUT THE LAND This 20 acre property, located 2 hours east of Red Deer, is current set up for growing vegetables and raising small livestock. The owners have a large greenhouse (22×48) and have intensively cultivated 4 acres for vegetable production for a local CSA. There are also buildings to accommodate meat and layer chickens. This land was formerly corals for livestock so the soil is extremely fertile with lots of organic matter. The owners have never used chemical on the land but the farm is not certified organic. During this video tour you will see over 3 km of swales, 40 million litres of water storage in ponds, dams, dugouts and wetlands, solar-powered water pumping, gravity water reticulation system, and energy-free livestock waterers. A great group of farmers and farmer friends came together during the third Young Agrarians Peace Country Mixer! Camp Tamarack was filled with laughter, knowledge, expertise, interesting and curious talk during the weekend of February 22nd and 23rd, 2020. Farmers traveled from far and wide to be part of the networking and education. The farmer speed dating was a great way for everyone to meet each other! The Central Alberta Winter Mixer was a fantastic weekend full of inspiring and passionate people! Despite the frigid temperatures, more than 80 people participated over the two days. Some highlights of the Mixer included fun networking activities (the Chicken Mingle was a hit!), an impressive potluck and jam session on Saturday evening, farmer slide shows that featured ten different farms, and farmer yoga on Sunday morning with retired-farmer-turned-yoga-teacher Kathleen Charpentier. Over the two days we also had twelve speakers and workshop hosts share their skills and knowledge.
