B.C. Land Matching Program British Columbia Land South Coast - Lower Mainland

LAND OPPORTUNITY: Up to 8 acres with orchard – Richmond, BC

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

Conveniently located in Richmond, eight acres of land are available for a vegetable, fruit or flower farm operation!

The available land consists of two adjacent properties: the first is currently home to a two acre orchard (apple, quince, and pear trees). The incoming farmer is invited to take over the orchard and make use of a plot north of the orchard, which would be suitable for vegetables, flowers, or other crops. Together, the orchard and additional plot make up close to four acres. The property is a community space for children and young people, so incoming farmers will need to be mindful of this and respectful of the shared land.

The second property has some extra space (over four acres) which will soon be cleared and levelled, at which point it would also be available to the incoming farmer. Both properties are level, fenced, and easily accessible from the road. Irrigation has been installed for the orchard on the first property, and it could be extended to other areas of the land.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a great opportunity for a farmer/orchardist who is interested in operating in a community space.

As well as taking over the established orchard, the incoming farmer could grow vegetables, flowers, more fruit, mushrooms, and much more… the landholders are open to ideas!

There is some farm equipment and tools available on-site, and the landholders are open to providing the land in exchange for maintenance of the property, rather than cash rent.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate would be community-minded, comfortable working around other (especially young people), and prepared to maintain neat and tidy premises.

There are no accommodations available on-site, so the incoming farmer would ideally live in the area or within reasonable commuting distance.
