I just thought it was so cool that Young Agrarians had a business course that was specific to farming… For the past couple of years, I have had one foot in farming and one foot still in the professional world, so [the Business Bootcamp] also helped me have the confidence to finally say, ‘Okay, I’m gonna do this for real.’

If you are a person who has never started a business, the [Business] Bootcamp is extraordinarily valuable. It is an education in all aspects of a farm business… It doesn’t feel like a classroom, rather like a group of friends learning around a campfire with wise older family friends sprinkled around to share their years of experience.

Since completing the [Business] Bootcamp, I feel a lot more confident and organized. We’ve been working on building our farm’s brand and social media presence, and we’ve even purchased business cards and a banner for our market stand. We’re taking small steps in the right direction.

I got a lot out of it. My favourite was the week that we had the breakout rooms with the farmers and were able to ask any questions…[YA] courses are making me feel more confident that I can do this and do it in a way that is exciting for me.

E-Learning Coordinator

In 2019, Caitlin found herself on 130 acres of land outside North Bay, ON. This opportunity to steward the land and connect with the local agrarian community led Caitlin and her partner to jump into small scale farming. They have raised pigs, chickens and turkeys, as well as growing a variety of vegetables to varying degrees of success. Using this lived experience alongside her experience as an educator, scientist and storyteller, Caitlin hopes to create an online learning space that supports new farmers with the tools and inspiration to follow their agrarian dreams!

E-Learning Support

Wara’s fascination with ecological farming began during a visit to Trat, Thailand, where she stayed with a friend who had traded a corporate career for organic farming. Inspired by his commitment to sustainable practices on his mangosteen farm, Wara embarked on a journey to learn more about ecological farming methods and resilient food systems. Whether learning about sustainable farming techniques, buying local food, reducing food waste, or exploring new culinary traditions, she is inspired by the connections between food, culture, and sustainability. Wara believes in the transformative power of education and is eager to integrate her expertise with her passion for sustainable food systems.
