Farm Transition: Stories & Support
Overview
Are you curious about farm transition? Join us to hear stories and solutions from farmers who have gone through the process.
With many farmers retiring from farming, transition agreements (where one farmer is looking to pass on the management of their land and farm to a new generation) are becoming more and more common. Farm transitions can be a great solution for both generations: the retiring farmer gets to pass on their legacy, and the incoming farmer can take over an established farm, meaning lower start-up costs.
So, what does a farm transition actually look like?
The 80-minute webinar features a panel discussion with three farmers involved in farm transitions: Tristan Banwell (Spray Creek Ranch, Lillooet, BC), Robin Tunnicliffe (Sea Bluff Farm, Vancouver Island, BC) and Yann Assemat (Roots ‘n Thyme, Robson Valley, BC). In the role of panel moderator, Central-North Land Matcher Andrew Adams outlines the key steps for farm transition and how the B.C. Land Matching Program (BCLMP) can support land-sharing agreements, as part of farm transition.
In this course, you’ll learn about the key stages of transition, how relationships between farmers and landholders are formed and maintained, how agreements are developed, and practical tips on farm transition. Panelists will also share insights on the resources and support provided by Young Agrarians during the transition process.
