YA APPRENTICESHIP 2025: East ST Paul, MB – Hnatiuk Market Gardens

Do you want to learn how to grow and raise a variety of vegetables? Are you interested in learning more about CSAs? Hnatiuk Market Gardens is excited to offer a hands-on apprenticeship just for you!

About the Farm

Hnatiuk Gardens is located in East St Paul, Manitoba – Treaty 1 Territory

Hnatiuk Gardens is a generational market gardening farm in East St. Paul, Manitoba, just 10km northeast of Winnipeg.

They believe farming can and needs to be innovative to meet the challenges of the 21st century and looming environmental issues. They believe small community-based farms can play a large role in the broken food system, keeping food sources close by, locally owned, environmentally friendly, chemical-free, diverse, fresh, and affordable.

Currently they grow over 40 varieties of vegetables and fruits for their CSA (Community Shared Agriculture) program, and Farmer’s Market. All of the produce is grown without the use of synthetic chemical herbicides or pesticides

About the apprenticeship:

This apprenticeship is a unique opportunity to try your hand at growing a diversity of crops, learning a wide variety of vegetable production techniques.

During this apprenticeship you will learn everything involved in a vegetable market garden and CSA. In the spring there is greenhouse work with seedlings and field prep. Come summer there is planting and ongoing field maintenance, along with harvesting, washing and packaging of produce.

As part of the apprenticeship, you will meet with other apprentices across BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba who are part of the Young Agrarians Apprenticeship program. Field days, learning opportunities and potlucks will be planned with the Manitoba group at 4 different farms.  You will also be invited to attend a regenerative or organic food conference during or following the apprenticeship.

About the  mentor:

Graham Hnatiuk is an ecologist, bringing a nature-focused approach into the farm and is always testing new growing methods in their no-till test plot.
