LAND OPPORTUNITY: 8 acres of pastureland for sheep, cattle, or small crops – Coldstream, BC

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

Bordering the woods of Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park, this eight-acre ALR pastureland in Coldstream is now available for lease.

The property features two separate pasture areas that each measure approximately four acres. These pastures are mostly cleared, with some small treed areas that provide natural shade and shelter. The entire perimeter of the property is deer fenced, and there are ample access points for water through a three-inch line with excellent water pressure.

The soil quality is good, with excellent drainage and plenty of sun exposure, and the land is on a mild slope, providing a beautiful view of the landscape below!

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This opportunity would be ideal for a small-scale livestock operation, particularly sheep or cattle. In previous years, the land has been hayed and has supported up to eight cattle during the summer grazing months. The land is rich with native grasses which makes for ample feed – the landholder estimates that the property could comfortably support four to five cows or up to 50 sheep.

Alongside the livestock, a small-scale vegetable operation would also be welcome, if the farmer would like to use some of the pastureland as growing space. The property has not been sprayed in recent years, so an organic operation would do well here, but the landholder is also open to conventional methods.

The property also comes with a barn with two stalls and access to a water trough nearby, which could be used for livestock purposes or for storage of tools and equipment.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

This is a great opportunity for a farmer looking to run a small-scale livestock operation or mixed operation!

As there is no housing available on-site, the opportunity is best suited to a farmer who lives in the area or within a comfortable commuting distance. There are no tools or equipment available on the property, so the ideal candidate would have access to any equipment necessary for managing their operation.

The landholder is looking forward to finding the right match, and is keen to meet with farmers who will continue to care for the property and help it reach its full potential. If you’re looking for land to start a livestock operation or nearby space to expand, don’t hesitate to reach out!
