LAND OPPORTUNITY: 40-acre property with three large heated greenhouses – Coldstream, BC

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

Just outside of the town of Coldstream, near the community of Lavington, this 40-acre property is now available for lease!

The property includes three large greenhouses which had previously been used as a flower nursery and hemp seed research facility. The greenhouses are each 150 feet long and 30 feet wide, with a wood chip heating system previously supplied by a nearby wood mill.

The available farmland is on the side of a south-facing slope overlooking the valley below. This farmland is currently fallow and hasn’t been farmed in recent years, meaning no sprays or chemicals have been used on the property recently. There are some trees surrounding the farmland, and portions of the land are perimeter fenced.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The farmland has good soil and plenty of sunshine, providing many potential options for production including grapes, vegetables, haying, flowers or nursery stock. The greenhouses would be well suited for a wide variety of production types, including vegetables, seed starting, or flowers.

The greenhouses are fitted with irrigation systems and electricity, and have ample space available for storage. The water system for the entire property is connected to a central well, and irrigation could be expanded beyond the greenhouses, if needed.

The incoming farming would be welcome to place a travel trailer on the property, to live on-site – access to water and electricity for a trailer is available.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

This opportunity does not come with tools or equipment, so the ideal candidate would have access to any tools or equipment necessary for their operation. If the incoming farmer would like to make use of the farmland for crop production, they would also require access to any machinery they might need to break up the land.
