ABOUT THE LAND

Scenically located next to a large provincial park, anywhere from 1 to 20 acres of farmland are available in Pemberton, BC! The land is well-suited for agriculture; the soils and water on the property have been tested for farming, with excellent results.

The property is 114 acres in ALR zoning, and the landholder currently keeps pigs, cows, hens and bees on the land. In addition to two wells, there are many natural sources of water that traverse the property and pumps have been installed to draw from these ponds and creeks. There are crop beds and fenced livestock pastures available, plus additional land that could be cleared to create more pasture space, if needed.

Medicinal plants (nettle, hemp, wild mint, cottonwood, elderberry, burdock, plantain, willow and many others) and mushrooms (pine, chanterelle, morels, puffball) can be wildcrafted on the property.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The incoming farmer is welcome to use anywhere from 1 to 20 acres for any production type, provided that they steward the land responsibly. The landholder has achieved Environmental Farm Plan status and will be working to maintain that. To keep the soils and waters healthy, the landholder requires that farmers run their operation in an environmentally conscious manner.

Of the available pasture space, about 4 acres have electric wire and fencing for rotational grazing – the landholder uses this space for their animals, but there is space for other animals as well. There is equipment available for shared use, including a tractor (plough, crimper, tiller, compost spreader), a seed drill, and a flail mower.

The farmer could bring a tiny home, trailer or mobile home and live on-site during the farming season between mid-May and end of October. There is also an outdoor kitchenette, a 3-season shower, and an outhouse available for use. The landholder is looking for a lease agreement involving rental income in line with average lease rates.

This is an excellent, flexible opportunity for environmentally-friendly farming!

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for this opportunity is an environmentally conscientious farmer that values responsible land stewardship. Farming activities will need to be in alignment with the current Environmental Farm Plan. This will help ensure that the soils and water on the land stay healthy for years to come.

The landholder, who lives on-site, values community farming and is looking for a neighbourly relationship and good camaraderie with the incoming farmer.
