This beloved parcel offers approximately 0.25 acres of level, fenced, and prepped market garden space located in the town of Smithers, BC! 

The land is part of three town lots (Lots 21, 22, and 23) and has excellent access right from the road. The plots were fallow land prior to the landholders’ acquisition in 2014 and have since been cultivated with organic market gardening techniques in mixed vegetables. The plots have fantastic 30 cm thick topsoil with good drainage, and are currently planted in garlic. 

The parcel boasts a small shed, perimeter fencing, access to city water, and the potential to borrow tools on-site. The greenhouse pictured below is no longer onsite, but the landholders are open to greenhouse growing on the property.

The fenced area provides a secure space, and with its town-centre location, the plot provides excellent access to markets – the landholders sold produce from the plot in local farmers markets for many years and are happy to set the incoming farmer up with marketing relationships.

The landholders are enthusiastic about seeing the land actively farmed and are keen to support a new farmer in establishing their business, including offering mentorship. They enjoyed farming the plot for many years and have since scaled up to farming a larger acreage outside of town, and would like to leave their beloved town plot in good hands.

They are open to vegetable gardening, greenhouse farming, flower farming, bees, and/or other production types. The landholders are open to a 1-year initial agreement with the possibility of long-term extension if all parties are satisfied.

The ideal candidate for this opportunity is an entrepreneurial and dedicated farmer who has a solid plan for commercial market garden production.
