LAND & LEARNING OPPORTUNITY: FARM AND HOMESTEAD – PEMBERTON, BC

We have more land opportunities than what is listed here! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at land@youngagrarians.org to access our full land inventory and B.C. Land Matching Program support in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

Located on Pemberton Portage Road in Birken, this established 6 acre farm has fruit trees and bushes, vegetable and flower beds, and egg-laying hens. Infrastructure, irrigation and hoophouses  are set up and available for use. It has a farm stand that operates from June to October. Over decades, the landholder has learned about the unique attributes of the land and developed cultivation methods suited to it.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

During the growing season, labour in exchange for room-and-board can be arranged. The landholder is seeking 20-hours of farm labour per week in exchange for accommodation (private cabin) and home cooked meals. This provides ample opportunity to farm independently or take on an off-farm job in Whistler where jobs are plentiful. During the winter season, you can continue by  renting while working full-time in Whistler.

If you’re interested in homesteading, the landholder is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of the many off-grid systems on the property. Produce you grow can be sold through the farm stand. In conjunction with the landholder, there are opportunities to engage in other income-generating activities such as eco-tourism. This is suitable for an outdoorsy individual or couple with a collaborative mindset.
