The Gabriola Agricultural Cooperative on Gabriola Island in British Columbia is seeking a Co-operative Assistant!
ABOUT Gabriola Agricultural Cooperative
The Gabriola Agricultural Co-op is dedicated to strengthening food security on Gabriola by supporting sustainable, low-waste farming and local food marketing. We are a grassroots volunteer/member run community services cooperative and the 2nd oldest Co-operative in BC.
We operate a Wednesday Night Market and a Saturday Farmers’ Market.
The Gabriola Agricultural Co-operative acknowledges and is grateful to live, grow, create, volunteer, and play on the traditional lands of the Snuneymuxw people.
POSITION TASKS
Saturday Market Support (Primary Focus)
- Assist with set-up and takedown
- Greet vendors and help coordinate logistics
- Support signage and wayfinding
- Engage with the public to promote the Co-op
- Help collect market-day feedback and data
Data Collection & Reporting
- Track market attendance and vendor participation
- Create weekly summary reports (sales, visitor trends, notes)
- Survey vendors and customers (with Manager oversight)
Communications & Marketing
- Draft social media posts/co-op newsletters (e.g., vendor spotlights, weekly previews)
- Update poster boards and community bulletin posts
- Take event photos and manage a photo log
- Help edit monthly newsletter and coordinate Mailchimp scheduling
Administrative & Co-op Capacity Support
- Update contact lists and co-op records
- Assist with co-op signage inventory
- Help organize digital and physical files
- Research grant opportunities for future events
Program Development (Light-Duty Research/Design)
- Draft a proposal outline for 2026 Apple Fest (e.g., scope, timeline, costs)
- Create a planning template (budget, volunteer roles, checklist)Reach out to past vendors/community partners for interest
POSITION DETAILS
Term: July 7, 2025 for 8 weeks
Hours per week: 32 hours
Wage: $22.00/hour
