ABOUT The Plot Market Garden

We are a productive market garden operating on 2 acres. We are mainly producing greens and tomatoes to grocery stores and restaurants, as well as other mixed vegetables for our farm stand and a CSA program. We operate on two properties in Saanich, one at our home site and another leased property on Oldfield road. Both sites are just 30 mins from downtown Victoria and Sidney and are surrounded by forest and adjacent to wetlands.

We use a BCS, tilther, quick cut greens harvester, paper pot, as well as a precision hoe and some hand weeding. We work hard but also like to have fun listening to music and going for dips in nearby lakes after work.

Our farm is regenerative (non-certified organic), with a big focus on high value crops and bio-intensive/high productivity, which means a lot of bed flipping, washing greens and produce, and bagging. We also have four unheated greenhouses where we grow high production tomatoes. We use organic fertiliser and compost and are starting to integrate cover crops as we expand.

DESIRED QUALITIES

• We are looking for a hard working, team player who is motivated to learn and willing to switch up jobs which includes working in the field, weeding, washing veggies and bagging produce.
• Drivers licence and vehicle required.
• Previous farm experience is an asset, but not necessary, since we will provide all training.

POSITION TASKS

• Bed preparation,
• seeding,
• harvesting,
• weeding,
• trellising tomatoes,
• washing produce,
• packing produce,
• packing CSA bags, and
• delivering.

POSITION DETAILS

Term: This is a full time, seasonal position from March until November

Hours per week: 30 – 40 hours per week

Wage: $19 per hour. Perks include a CSA box/week, a fun work environment, and the occasional pizza lunch.
