FED Urban Farm in Victoria , BC is seeking a Farm Assistant!

ABOUT FED Urban Farm

FED Urban Farm is a 20,000 square foot small scale, mixed vegetable farm in the heart of Victoria West, along the Galloping Goose trail next to the Inner Harbour. We grow food in geotextile grow bags using only organic inputs and soil food web practices. There is no machinery involved as we do everything by hand. We have an on-site market and CSA program from May-October, and deliver to local restaurants weekly for as long as the growing season allows!

We are constantly evolving our growing system to make farming more accessible and successful without compromising our efforts to create healthy soil and healthy food for all.

We believe that the quality of the food we grow is only as good as the health of the soil below. We use only high quality organic inputs and test our soil regularly to monitor the health of the biology. We apply compost teas, extracts and other biological inoculants to support a robust soil food web.

DESIRED QUALITIES

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about farming and working outdoors. They are keen to learn the ins and outs of planting, harvesting, monitoring plant and soil health, and contributing to a successful social enterprise through our CSA, Market and Restaurant channels.

This candidate enjoys working both independently and on a team, and is flexible in their ability to swiftly switch from task to task as needed.

Many aspects of this role will be public-facing; whether it be new faces or longstanding relationships, we aim to authentically engage, educate, support and inspire all those we interact with. POSITION TASKS

• Seed, plant, prepare, and maintain garden and pollinator gardens
• Fertilize/amend soil and top up containers with compost between plantings
• Harvests & record produce weights/location and other important data and observations
• Processes (wash, spin, pack/weigh) restaurant greens, CSA and market orders
• Maintain high standard of produce packaged and delivered to various customers
• Site maintenance (weed whacking, moving containers when needed, post-harvest clean up, pruning, moss/weed mgmt, invasive species removal, nursery support)
• Learn to develop and execute on daily and weekly task lists
• Delivers restaurant orders or pick ups using MODO or E-bike (when needed)
• On-site compost management

POSITION DETAILS

Term: This is a 6.5 month contract starting April 15th-October 31st, 2025.

Hours per week: 30-32 hours per week (4 days/week)

Wage: $26-28/hour
4% standard holiday
4 hours paid volunteer time
