ABOUT Flyway Farm & Forest and Spilli Station Cafe

Flyway Farm & Forest includes (3) Pasture gardens: 15’x50′ tilled gardens + (1) 15’x25 with two Farmer’s Friend caterpillars/hoop houses. We are implementing permaculture activities throughout the season — chickens and goats will be working the gardens with us. The pasture includes a Trickle creek adjacent and a mountain spring. FFF is adjacent to the gorgeous Pacific Flyway & Columbia Wetlands with lots of opportunities to climb, cycle, and hike.

We have a ‘live’ garden market opportunity and 5 day/week farm garden tables at our restaurant, the Spilli Station Cafe.

The location has highway pullout and parking options. The TransCanada Highway diversion closure will push an incredible volume of traffic past Flyway Farm & Forest in 2021.

At Flyway we are believers in diversity — in our people, lands, and animals. This is a safe and inclusive space for our family and friends — foul, four-legged, and friends. To the best of our ability and using available resources we discover and adopt sustainable practices. We see ourselves as stewards of these lands and the surrounding areas with commitments to zero waste and food security for all. We are humbled to be beneficiaries of the Ktunaxa and Shuswap Nations who historically and in this era have kept kinship relations, human and non-human in these territories, centred and inspired by their vibrant communities. If these ideas resonate with you, we’d love to talk.

DESIRED QUALITIES

A balanced type of folk — those comfortable with a physical routine of working with the gardens and the chickens at sunrise, heading out to the mountains mid-day for a ride, and then tucking in the goats at night. The individual will monitor and manage everything from propagation to harvest throughout the spring-summer.

As the weekend approaches, our FFF agrarian would be welcome to work the garden table, try out a new recipe of their creation in the commercial kitchen at the cafe, or sit and have a pink chai latte with us outdoors overlooking Jubilee Mountain.
It would be great to have a wee bit of experience and a background in permaculture but we can share what we know with the right candidate.
