Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture in North Saanich, British Columbia is seeking a Farm Hand!

The Farm Hand supports the daily operations of the Sandown Farm, which primarily grows produce for local school meal programs. This is a 1-acre farm that was developed this Spring at the Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture, a project of the non-profit organization the Circular Farm and Food Society. This role includes a mix of hands-on farming tasks and public engagement activities.

The farm is part of a larger property, the Sandown lands, operated by the Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture, on District of North Saanich ALR land. The non-profit also operates an incubator farm program, with 8 other working farms, and the non-profit FarmFolk CityFolk, a sheep farmer, and a hobby bee keeper. We are not certified organic, but follow regenerative (spray-free,no/low-till) practices.

DESIRED QUALITIES

We are looking for someone who is dependable, enthusiastic about sustainable agriculture, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. The person should be reliable and have their own transportation to get to North Saanich.

POSITION TASKS

Farm Operations

• Perform regular fieldwork including weeding, bed preparation, planting, and harvesting
• Assist with irrigation set-up, troubleshooting, and monitoring
• Maintain farm infrastructure such as fences, pathways, wash stations, and tool storage
• Wash, pack, and label produce for deliveries
• Support weekly produce deliveries as needed

Community Engagement & Events

• Assist with setting up and hosting farm-based events
• Represent the Sandown Farm at community events and help promote educational and food access programs

POSITION DETAILS

Term: We are looking to have someone join our team of three ASAP, as this is a Canada Summer Jobs position. This is a full-time for an 8-10 week period.

Hours per week: 35

Wage: $22/hr
