FARM JOB: North Cowichan, British Columbia – Green Fire Farm, Part-time field worker

Green Fire Farm in North Cowichan, British Columbia, is seeking a part-time field worker!

ABOUT Green Fire Farm

Green Fire Farm is a diverse, 40-acre family farm raising vegetables, flowers, fruits, hay, and a small herd of low-line angus cattle. We are located in the Cowichan Valley, not far from the trans-Canada trail, some excellent swimming holes, and the active, yet still easy to get around, downtown of Duncan. For our production scale, we rely on a mixed set of tractors and implements, as well as hand tools and power tools well designed for the tasks. We market our produce to independent grocers and wholesale buyers throughout the Islands region.

Our goals with crop and pasture rotations within the integrated crop-livestock system are to promote agri-biodiversity, recycle nutrients on farm, and build-to-maintain healthy soils, water, crops, livestock, and humans. To practice and learn our way towards achieving those goals, we collaborate with numerous on-farm research initiatives focused on building soil health (e.g. Organic Science Clusters, UBC Sustainable Agriculture Landscapes Lab, CANOVI cultivar trials). Our production practices are informed by 25 years of experience with commercial, certified organic farming, by research collaboration and teaching connections with the UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems, and with a whole lot of humility-and-hallelujah that comes with day-to-day farming.
