Seed to Culture in Lillooet, BC is seeking a Farm and Fermentation Assistant!

ABOUT Seed to Culture

Seed to Culture is a small scale certified organic vegetable farm and fermented food processor. We grow mixed vegetables and fruit using organic practices on over 1 acre of productive land in Lillooet, BC. Our business, as farmers and fermenters, has been in operation for over 7 years but we have been market farmers for over 15 years. We sell our vegetables at multiple Farmers Markets, wholesale to restaurants, and use our vegetables at our small food production facility to make sauerkraut and other fermented products. We also have a small retail location where we sell our vegetables, fermented products, and other Lillooet grown or made products.

Our goal is to create an ecologically, environmentally, and physiologically regenerative business that provides the community with a source of locally produced healthy, delicious product. To create a financially viable preserved food business based around the production of value added healthy fermented products. We value holistic approaches to farming, food production, and consumption. We value practices that are regenerative to the environment and our bodies. Our farm is certified organic and we farm on 2 different properties.

DESIRED QUALITIES

  • We are looking for a motivated, upbeat, adaptable person to join our team!
  • Must arrive punctual and be prepared to work.
  • Be willing to work outdoors on hot days, lift up to 40lbs, and be keen to learn how to farm and ferment!
  • This is hard work and you must have a positive attitude.
  • This position is partially funded by the Canadian government so the person has to meet the following criteria: Canadian Citizen, 15-30 years of age

POSITION TASKS

  • Farm tasks – seeding, planting seedlings, weeding (lots of weeds!), harvesting vegetables and fruit, and washing and preparing produce for markets.
  • Basic irrigation set up and maintenance.
  • Field record keeping.
  • Cleaning storage crops, and prepping fields for winter.
  • Kitchen tasks – washing and chopping vegetables, and packaging fermented foods
  • Customer Service tasks – selling products at Farmers Markets and our Retail Store

POSITION DETAILS

Term: May 5th start date until December 22nd

Hours per week: 32-40 hours per week

Wage: We pay $18-$22/hr depending on experience and offer staff discounts on our vegetables and fermented products.
