FARM JOB: Kelowna, BC – Helens Acres, Farm apprentice

Helens Acres in Kelowna, BC is seeking a Farm apprentice!

ABOUT Helens Acres

Helen Acres is a 24 acre nonprofit farm that grows all of its produce to be donated to local Food Bank agencies.

We focus primarily on vegetables, but have a small portion of fruit like raspberries, Saskatoon berries, and strawberries.

Our focus is on potatoes, carrots, and onions, but we also provide other pieces of nutrition for our clients like lettuce, Swiss chard, kale, zucchini, and cucumbers, etc.

The physical setting of our form is located in the heart of Kelowna and is a Stones throw from local shopping centres.

Our farm provides incredible view of the mountains and the valley.

We operate our farm with two John Deere 4066 tractors as well as a John Deere 3025.

We have two greenhouses that help us winterize our onions as well as be a starting block for our planted seeds to grow into seedlings and then further be transplanted into the field.

As we are a nonprofit, we do not sell any of our produce.

Last year, we grew 96,000 pounds and the year previous was 76,000 pounds. Our increase in yield continues to grow as the need for fresh produce in our community is growing.

At Helens Acres, we believe that fresh produce should not be limited by life circumstances. We believe that if people are in need of food, and we can provide it, people have the ability to eat fresh produce straight from the Okanogan.

We do our very best to run and operate our farm with organic practices.
