FARM JOB: Enderby, BC – Splatsin Tsm7aksaltn (Splatsin Teaching Centre) Society, Garden and Food Coordinator
Splatsin Tsm7aksaltn (Splatsin Teaching Centre) Society in Enderby, British Columbia is seeking a Garden and Food Coordinator!
The Food Coordinator will play a key role in delivering the On-the-Land Food Knowledge & Preservation Program. This culturally grounded, intergenerational initiative is designed to increase food sovereignty, restore traditional food practices, and build long-term food security for the Splatsin and indigenous programs and families of School District 83. Working in collaboration with Elders, youth, and community members, the Food Coordinator will lead workshops, coordinate harvesting and preservation activities, and help document cultural teachings and create cultural curriculum.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Delivery
- Organize and facilitate bi-weekly hands-on food preservation workshops for parents and/or Tsm7aksaltn and SD 83 (e.g., canning, fermenting, smoking).
- Assist in the creation, delivery and set-up of Garden Boxes for the Tsm7aksaltn, School District and community. To follow up with families and provide garden products, advice on planting, harvesting and future planning.
- Assist with coordinating land-based harvesting trips for hunting, fishing, and gathering activities.
- Support distribution of preserved foods and food kits to Elders and participating families.
Cultural and Language Integration
- Collaborate with Elders and language speakers to capture traditional food knowledge in Splatsin language. Create curriculum that includes the Splatsin language to go with workshops for parents and Tsm7aksaltn/SD 83.
- Participate in the creation of short educational videos that highlights food practices and cultural teachings and the language.
- Create and post Tik Tok style videos and social media like FB Community Engagement
- Conduct outreach to participating households, assist with registration, and support youth and Elder involvement.
- Participate in United Way workshops and data gathering.
- Attend seasonal community events and support the planning of a final celebration and knowledge-sharing event.
Logistics and Administration
- Ensure all safety and food handling guidelines are followed during workshops and excursions.
- Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment (e.g., pressure cookers, vacuum sealers, jars).
- Support program evaluation by tracking participation, gathering feedback, and contributing to reports.

Reports to: Executive Director and Splatsin Tsm7aksaltn Society Board of Directors
Term: Part-Time Contract (12 months)
Location: Splatsin, Enderby, BC and surrounding land-based learning sites
Start Date: August 1, 2025
End Date: July 30, 2026
Wage: $25-30.00 hr depending on experience
Hours: 28 hours per week for 44 weeks up to 50 weeks
Must have proven experience to do this position. It is preferable that you are local to the Enderby area.
