We have more land opportunities than what is listed here! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at land@youngagrarians.org to access our full land inventory and B.C. Land Matching Program support in your region.
ABOUT THE LAND
Just outside of picturesque Haines Junction, the farm overlooks Kluane National Park in southwest Yukon. Purchased in mid-2018, the farm is still in its development phase. Previously used for hay and oats, the long term objective is to establish a diverse, sustainable, organic farm that incorporates elements of permaculture. Different value adding opportunities will be explored for fruit and grain.
Northern varieties have been selected for trial on the farm. A small orchard and a small area of rye were planted in 2019. Wheat and hay are other crops that Fin (landholder) plans to put in during the 2020 season.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Fin is looking at opportunities to share the land. There is more than 50 acres of cleared land that could be under production. Other plans for 2020 include developing a pond for irrigation, building a greenhouse and a barn. Livestock are in the plan for down the road. Although only a 10-15 minute drive from Haines Junction, the farm is definitely in a wilderness setting!
Different options are available for accommodation. If needed, temporary accommodation can be provided. Alternatively, applicants have the opportunity to learn how to build a log cabin that they can live in while on the property. Materials and instruction provided. Applicants are also welcome to bring their own accommodation, ie. tiny house. Carpentry skills are an asset.
