We have more land opportunities than what is listed here! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at land@youngagrarians.org to access our full land inventory and B.C. Land Matching Program support in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

A certified organic farm since 1997, this land has produced famous salad greens, mixed vegetables, fruits and eggs for the Nanoose Bay community as well as high-end restaurants at Vancouver Island resorts. The property consists of 22 acres in total, including a heritage orchard and several sections of market garden areas and larger vegetable fields. The available land includes approximately 2.5-3 acres of open fields, which have previously grown field crops like garlic, favas, squashes and mixed greens. These fields have been fallow in recent years, but can be cultivated easily and will be ready for planting this spring!

Water for irrigation is available from a pond and a well, and drought-conscious water management will be necessary in coming years. The whole farm is deer-fenced (electric throughout), and the fields are accessible by vehicles and machinery.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

In early 2024, the farm was purchased by the current landholders who wish to bring the farm back into production and create a family home on the land. The family will live on the land on a part-time basis, and plan to manage the existing orchard and perennial berries. They are also planning to launch their own farm business to supply fresh produce to local restaurants.

The landholders would like to invite new farmers to make use of the extra fields and to be part of the farm revitalization. They are open-minded about what the land will produce, but request that organic practices are used to keep the land certified. They prefer to see low-intensity crops that require less management (than a market garden, for example) so that the farmer only requires periodic access to the land. The use of a wash station and packing area, as well as equipment and tools can be negotiated depending on the farmer’s business model.

The land is available as early as April 2024! It is an ideal opportunity for an experienced farmer(s) who can fully utilize the 3 acres to grow field crops to supplement or expand their current production.

The farm is located in Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island. There is no accommodation on-site, but it is easily accessible from Nanaimo and Parksville areas.
