ABOUT THE LAND
Located in Nanoose Bay, a small seaside community on the east coast of Vancouver Island, this 18-acre farm is home to a bustling Farm-To-Tap Brewery and Gourmet Eatery. Here, craft beers are made from farm-grown barley, and the unpretentious west coast fare is lovingly prepared using fresh local ingredients.
The majority of the land is used for barley production, and U-pick blueberries (which is a local favourite).
Approximately half acre (two 1/4 acre plots) of fertile garden space is available, all set up for growing vegetables, and is ready to be planted for the 2023 season. These plots were cultivated for market gardening, but have sat fallow for a few years. There is a 2,000-sqft greenhouse, that is in need of new plastic, but is also available.
The land is fenced. Water is plentiful (tested by Island Health). All it needs is a gardener!
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
This is an ideal opportunity for an enthusiastic gardener / vegetable grower, who is committed to producing high quality vegetables. Experienced or novice farmers are both welcome to bring their plans forward.
The landholders co-own and operate the on-site Brewery and Eatery. The farmer will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Chef to supply the kitchen with fresh seasonal vegetables. A farm stand in the always-packed parking lot will surely be a huge hit. If quality produce can be grown, they will be sold!
The farm is conveniently located, close to the HWY, 10-min drive to Parksville and 15-min to Nanaimo, with plenty of marketing opportunities.
“The Rake is a good-for-the-soul kind of place, and at the heart of it all is our beautiful farm. It’s where we grow the barley for our delicious beer, where we dream up and create our gourmet local fare, and where friends and family gather to raise a glass and share a meal. So, pull up a seat and join us! Cheers!”
