Approximately 2.75 acres on a 12 acre farm property is available for lease beginning for the 2023 growing season.

The 2.75 acres has a separate driveway from the landholder’s side of the property, and includes about one acre which is currently in mixed vegetable cultivation, a 100×20 foot poly-tunnel on angle iron tracks so the structure can be moved every few yers, as well as about 0.25-0.5 acre that could be expanded into. The opportunity includes a 1910, three bedroom farmhouse for the leasing farmer to rent. Many recent upgrades have been made as well as additions of a double carport  and 13 x 15 mudroom in the last few years.

Under ground water lines fed from the 6 gpm well are in place throughout the area for lease, irrigation systems would be installed by the farmer as desired. Water usage is rotated between other uses on the property in the height of the summer when levels are low. Sub-soil drainage is also in place throughout the growing space. The soil is a dark and rich with a clay layer at about 27 inch depth which minimizes water requirements. The property has full perimeter deer fencing in place.

This field has been farmed for the past 20 years using organic practices. The ideal candidates for the opportunity would be a couple with complementary skills, passion for soil health and experience with organic growing practices, cover cropping and crop rotation. The farm was certified organic until 2021, and the landholders would be happy to mentor the incoming farmer in resuming certification if desired.

The landholders intend to construct a wash/pack station and storage building on the leased area for the farmer’s use once an agreement with the new farmer has been finalized. The landholders have a tractor with all implements and are can be contracted to do tractor work as needed for the leasing farmer.

The leasing farmer will be responsible for maintaining the leased area, including keeping the grass cut (which can be contracted out to the landholders if desired). No dogs are permitted on the property – no exceptions. This is an opportunity for farmers who have been fully COVID-19 vaccinated.
