Posted by Darcy Smith on June 09, 2023

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

This turn-key feed mill operation with farmland in Dawson Creek is now available for lease! The farm is 31 acres in total, featuring a feed mill, a farm yard, a house and 20 acres of hay fields for cultivation.

This family-run business has been in operation for 40 years, supplying local hobby farmers, cattle producers and pet owners with feed, pet food and additional value-added items. The operation is now ready to be taken over by a new farmer (or farmers), and the landholders are keen to work with the incoming farmer to ensure a smooth transition of the farmland and business.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The farm and feed mill have previously been listed for sale, but the landholders are interested in leasing and providing mentorship to someone who has experience in the industry and who understands the business.

The mill is fully-functioning, with storage for grains, B-train truck capacity, and a shop to conduct maintenance and repairs. This mill has roller mills as well as hammer mills to allow for a diverse product line. The business is also set up to supply value-added sales, such as fencing materials and posts, and other feed products.

While the farmland and feed mill are the primary focus of this opportunity, there is also an option to lease the other infrastructure on the property, as well as part of the house (for the right candidate). Please note that the land and house cannot be leased independently of the mill – the agreement must encompass the feed mill.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate would be an individual (or family) with agriculture experience and an understanding of the market. Since the landholders live on-site, communication and a good relationship will be key for this opportunity.

This is a great chance to take over a turn-key feed mill operation and hit the ground running!
