ABOUT THE LAND
Prime soil. Abundant water. Pristine, accessible location. Infrastructure in place. Natural fence. Organically managed.
These 22 acres have been cultivated using organic farming practices to produce vegetables, grains, beans and oilseed crops for the past six years. There is an abundance of water from the aquifer between the Cowichan and Koksilah Rivers, and main irrigation infrastructure is set up. The field is flat, well drained, and perimeter fenced with blackberries and wild rose.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The landowner would like to find a new farmer to take over the site and ensure this incredible farmland stays in production as the current farmer will be leaving the land at the end of the 2019 season. A lot of work has been put into building a thriving, highly productive farm which grows for a dedicated customer base, including a CSA, grocery stores and cafes in the Cowichan Valley. The farm set up and will be left as-is for the next farmer to step into.
The departing farmer on her experience on this land:
“I feel so grateful for the opportunity to cultivate this one-of-a-kind piece of land. The fertile soil and endless water makes growing easy. It is a very special property in so many ways. Anyone would be very lucky to farm this magical land.”
Outbuildings that would be left for the new farmer and included in the lease are: a storage shed, three sided shelter/produce pick up stand, a 16×16 walk-in cooler with cool-bot, pump house, and three trailers which can accommodate farm hands, apprentices or volunteers.
Two 200×12 caterpillar tunnels are available for sale, as well as a rodent-proof shipping container, tractor and various other tools and equipment.
Ideally, this farm would be leased to one farmer who wants to take over all 22 acres, though this may be negotiable. The lease term can be for at least 5 years.
