LAND OPPORTUNITY: 9.5 acres of farmland – Deroche, BC

Posted by Danika Watson on August 01, 2024

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

If you’re looking for a flexible land opportunity for plant-based production types, read on!

This flat 10 acre property is located in Deroche, about 17 km from Mission. The land is divided into two parcels by a small creek; one side is 1.5 acres and the other is nearly 8 acres. Both parcels are available for lease, together or separately. The land was previously hayed and has fencing on the south side, which faces an adjacent blueberry farm.

The road leading onto the property is shared, but a separate road could be created at the incoming farmer’s expense. On the north side, there is a house occupied by a long-term tenant. Water is supplied by a well on the property. There is also a barn (60 x 40 feet), part of which could be rented by the incoming farmer for a separate fee.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This opportunity would be a great fit for plant-based production types, so let your imagination run wild! The landholder is open to vegetables, hay & forage, orchard/fruit, flowers, mushrooms and mixed production, as well as on-farm events (if bylaws allow). Temporary structures, like a greenhouse tunnel, can be discussed if the incoming farmer needs them.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The landholder is seeking a mutually beneficial arrangement and is open to organic and conventional practices. Keeping the land neat and tidy is also important to them, so a well-maintained operation would be ideal. The landholder is eager for the land to be farmed and maintained long-term.
