We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.
ABOUT THE LAND
Nestled between the mountains outside of Lumby, BC, this beautiful 6.5-acre property is now available for lease. With two pastures available for goats, sheep, horses or a couple of cows, farming opportunities abound! The landholders have been living and working on this farm since 2016 and have put a lot of love and care into it. They currently have goats, chickens and a pig on the property.
The pasture areas available for livestock include a cleared, fully-fenced 1.5-acre pasture and a wetland area with a pond that would be suitable for many types of livestock, as there is plenty of forage available. There is also a 5-acre field that is currently seeded with alfalfa. The field is self-irrigating from an underground spring, meaning water is readily available throughout the summer and is very low-maintenance.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
A very unique feature of this property – installed by the landholders – is two shipping containers that have been converted into growing or storage facilities. These facilities are fully drywalled with heating, air conditioning, UV lighting and electricity. The incoming farmer could use these containers for cold storage, growing small-scale crops or drying crops and flowers.
If the incoming farmer would like to use the 5-acre field, they would also have access to a pole barn, which currently contains hay bales. If not, the landholders would continue to store their feed in this space. If the farmer is interested in haying a smaller parcel, there is also a possibility of splitting up the hay field between multiple farmers.
The landholders are willing to share the barn space if the incoming farmer has a horse or other small livestock that require indoor space. The barn has access to water and electricity. If the farmer would like to board a couple of cows at the property for the winter, the landholders would be open to trading the available space for beef.
The 5-acre field produces a healthy crop annually without spray intervention, and the landholders would like the incoming farmer to run a no-spray operation as well. As the fields are self-irrigated by an underground spring, protecting that water supply for the property and the neighbouring properties is of high importance.
There is no housing currently available on the property, but a farmer could potentially bring a travel trailer to the property during busy periods. The landholders would provide access to water and electricity for the trailer.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal farmer for this opportunity would have access to their own equipment and housing, and would be interested in farming without the use of sprays. With the many unique features of this property, there’s lots of room for creativity and new ideas! Since the landholders live and tend their own livestock on the property, communication and a positive relationship will be key.
The landholders are excited to share their space with someone that will take good care of the land and the surrounding environment. They are looking forward to meeting with the incoming farmer(s) to hear their ideas for this beautiful property!
