ABOUT THE LAND

Welcome to 37 acres of ALR grazing land in Courtenay, BC! This property includes 1-2 acres of cleared grassland in addition to 25-30 acres of mixed woodland, all of which could be used for small livestock grazing.

Historically, the landholders and their family raised weaner pigs in the forest, and sheep (ewes, lambs, and rams) on the pasture. Livestock has not been on the land for some time, and some of the grasses have been cut for hay or livestock bedding in recent years. The land is most suitable for sheep, goats, forest pigs or pastured poultry in the cleared areas. The land is not currently being farmed and is in a natural state of lightly overgrown grasses and trees.

Natural ponds and a domestic well could supply some amount of water for livestock.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The landholders have been living and farming on this land for a long time and wish to stay here for as long as possible. They sold off the sheep years ago, but really miss seeing and feeding animals on the land. Although they can no longer commit to the full responsibilities of keeping livestock, the rewarding part of farming continues to live on in their hearts. They want to share the land with someone who carries that same passion.

The land can be available for both seasonal grazing or a long-term lease for the right fit.

If the farmer is just starting out, the landholders are happy to share their experience and help feed or tend to the animals!

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

This is an opportunity for someone with a strong passion for regenerative farming and raising livestock, whether they’re new or an expert. An ideal candidate could be a new farmer who is starting out and needs a place to experiment and learn, or an established farmer looking for additional grazing land to grow their business.
