ABOUT THE LAND

A two-bedroom suite on the lower floor of a home in the heart of Cowichan Station is available for rent immediately. This housing opportunity comes with an established garden with raised beds, small greenhouse, raspberries and a small orchard which is available for the tenants use. The owners would like to rent to tenants who will put the garden to its fullest use and will maintain it as a food producing resource. Water is limited, so irrigation must be done mindfully, and drought resistant/low water requirement crops would be ideal.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

From Dorothea, the owner – We are a quiet family of three (husband and wife and 18-year-old daughter finishing Grade 12).  All three of us love nature, and we chose this location in the country because it is walking distance to the Waldorf school, and a very short walk to The HUB at Cowichan Station, our local community centre, where movies, yoga, wood and clay working co-ops, cafe and other interesting activities like 5-rhythms dance take place. Part of the quiet we enjoy here is a commitment to no wi-fi and no smart meter at our home; we want our garden also to be free of microwave radiation, and for the human beings here to get the best possible sleep free of microwaves (though cell service is available).

All three of us love meeting people, and we have hosted wwoofers from around the world as well as teachers in July for the Waldorf teaching training which happens every summer. Currently, my husband collects unusual wood and sells it (Bahnmann Timber) and I am interested in small farming ventures and the Citta Slow movement.

I could partner with future tenants to help with a farming venture, or future tenants could be doing their own thing. We could provide wood for more raised beds.  The suite has mostly wood floors and is heated by wood stove (firewood can be made available for you). The garden is nicely situated with a fenced veggie garden, lots of raspberry canes and a small orchard. The land is longing for someone to tend it lovingly (together with Dorothea)  with respect for Mother Earth.
