LAND OPPORTUNITY: up to 11 acres for organic farming – Pemberton, BC

Posted by Danika Watson on August 14, 2024

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

This beautiful 39-acre property is located in the Pemberton Meadows Valley, just a 17-minute drive from downtown Pemberton! The property has been farmed and has had farm status since 2012. About 11 acres of the land are cultivable, with 2 acres of garlic currently planted, along with a home garden and flower beds. There are also vacant, prepared beds that the incoming farmer is welcome to plant and experiment in!

Water is supplied by a well, and there is irrigation infrastructure already in place. Power is available and the incoming farmer could potentially have access to shared tools and a production barn on the property.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Ideally, the landholder would like the incoming farmer to take over their current two-acre garlic operation from November, to ensure no interruption in the property’s qualification for farm status. The farmer would have flexibility to plant the remaining acreage in a variety of crops. Possibilities include vegetables, grain, flowers, hay, mushrooms, bees and more!

Although the farm is not certified organic, the landholder has used organic-standard practices and would want the incoming farmer to do the same. Manual cultivation and no-till practices are preferred.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

On-site housing is not available, so the ideal candidate would already live nearby. The incoming farmer should be interested in farming with the use of organic-standard practices. This is a great opportunity to take over an existing operation while also obtaining space for additional production types – the best of both worlds!
