We have more land opportunities than what is listed here! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at land@youngagrarians.org to access our full land inventory and B.C. Land Matching Program support in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

The land is located in the fertile Cowichan bay estuary. The property is already home to an active guesthouse for special events and short-term vacation rentals, and a soon to be open cidery.

Located in the ALR, the property has a history of non-certified organic farming and market gardening, but the land and infrastructure put in place for those operations is currently unused, and the owner is seeking somebody interested in taking over this part of the property for their own farming business and keeping it maintained and operational.

The space available is a one acre flat field with full exposure, which has been cover cropped and mowed in recent years. There are a variety of tools already on site, and a small tractor with brush cutter and rototiller which may be available for shared use, in cooperation with another farmer on the land. The cidery gets most of its apples and pears from off-site orchards, but is a possible client for a farmer looking to grow small fruits.

There is the potential for accommodation in the form of a 4-bed 1 bath suite, renovated in 2014 specifically for WWOOFers, but further discussion is required due to regulatory complications relating to the current zoning classification and number of allowable dwellings on the property.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

An ideal candidate for this lease would be somebody who has developed a thorough business plan for their farming operation and who can utilize and benefit from the existing irrigation system. It’s important that any potential tenant would be able to respect the existing uses of the property, and conduct their farming in such a way as not to detract from the appeal of the property as a venue.

Previous agriculture was focused on small-plot intensive market gardening, and all planting records and plans from that operation can be made available to the lessee upon request. Past and current pictures of all aspects of the property are also available.
