Northstar Organics in Victoria, BC is seeking Organic Farm Staff specializing in farmers’ markets and wholesale delivery!
ABOUT Northstar Organics
We are a 10-acre certified organic farm growing vegetables and berries in fields and greenhouses. The farm is located in Central Saanich at 2200 Bear Hill Rd.
All our food is sold in the Victoria area, at farmers’ markets, and to local restaurants.
Our goal is to grow healthy food in a sustainable way that generates enough income to provide decent wages for staff.
DESIRED QUALITIES
- Interested in farming
- Clean driving record, comfortable driving a small cargo van
- Enjoys connecting with people; chefs and staff at restaurants and grocery stores, and customers at markets
- Able to carry out the physical work of markets and wholesale delivery, including lifting up to 40 pound boxes
- Clear and concise communication skills
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
JOB TASKS
We are looking for someone to join our team at the farm working on the field and greenhouse crops, as well as take the lead in running our two weekly farmers markets (Thursdays and Saturdays), and weekly delivery to our Wholesale customers (Wednesdays). Work days are Tuesday to Saturday. Saturday is our main year-round farmers market, while our second farmer’s market starts in April and is every Thursday. Wholesale delivery is each Wednesday. Days not at market or delivering wholesale are spent at the farm helping with the daily harvesting and general farm work.
JOB DETAILS
Term: Permanent full-time position.
Hours per week: 37.5 hours/week
Wage: $21/hour to start.
No room and board is available, but employees are welcome to take home unsold food for their personal use.
