ABOUT THE LAND:

Gorgeous property on the Naramata bench overlooking Okanagan Lake is home to
approx. 360 healthy Lapin cherry trees which produce 10-12,000 lbs of cherries each July.  The orchard is fully irrigated and has been conventionally managed with seasonal pruning, watering, spraying and bird management to date.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

The landowner is looking for long-term orchard manager to replace a retiring one and take over the lease. The landowner would like to see the orchard transition to organic management and sees possibilities for value-added sales (eg dried cherries, cherry brandy). There is the possibility of housing for the prospective farmer on the property in a gorgeous, newly renovated cabin, right next to the orchard. There is also space and opportunity for vegetable growing, and buildings for livestock. The area is densely populated with wineries, so a farm stand on the property could be a good option for sales.

There is good support from BC Tree Fruit Co-op in place and mentorship could be possible from kind-hearted, seasoned orchardists in the neighbourhood.

The right person for this opportunity will be dedicated to maintaining the orchard in a caring, and tidy way, and will have a vision and farm plan to make a successful business in cherry farming.
