YOUNG AGRARIANS PARTNERSHIP: UNITE FOR CHANGE – THE LAND AND FOOD JUSTICE FUND

Posted by JoHana Harcourt on June 15, 2023

ABOUT THE LAND AND FOOD JUSTICE FUND

The Food and Land Justice Fund was created to support over 40 organizations doing work to increase food security, fight for food justice, and create equitable food systems across Canada. It can be found on the Unite for Change platform  – which launched in 2021 to fundraise for some of the most pressing issues of our time, from climate change to social justice causes.

Everyone deserves equal access to healthy, culturally appropriate food. The Food and Land Justice Fund’s goal is to fundraise for organizations that are specifically working to support the young farmers growing our food, especially the Black, Indigenous, and communities of colour organizing around food justice and food sovereignty.

The list of charities included in this fund was curated by Natasha van Bentum of Give Green Canada, Dr. Lauren Baker of the Global Alliance for the Future of Food, and Leticia Ama Deawuo, the Executive Director of SeedsChange.

“We must start seeing hunger, farming practices and land access, government policy, and racial justice as interconnected pieces of a broken system. By supporting leaders and initiatives making change on the ground — farming, organizing, building community — we’ll see a growing movement for food justice.”
