YA APPRENTICESHIP 2023: North Battleford, SK – Katerynych Family Farm

About the Farm

Katerynych Family Farm is located on Treaty 6 territory, near North Battleford SK. 

David Katerynych operates a 1500-acre organic gluten-free farm on a regenerative path in northwest Saskatchewan.  The farm is currently experimenting with different cover crops in addition to introducing animal integration. Their busy season is April/May through to Nov/Dec. On Katerynych farm there will be opportunities for formal as well as informal learning.  Apprentices will learn modern organic production as well as basic mechanics and equipment operation

 

About the apprenticeship:

The apprenticeship would run from April/May to  October/ November. Students are welcome to apply.  Apprentice qualifications someone who is enthusiastic about regenerative agriculture and can bring that enthusiasm to the farm.

Apprentices will learn about regenerative organic grain farming and machinery.

About the farm mentor: 

David is a single Dad with 3 kids. He has worked in agriculture in both agronomy and grain marketing. Farming is his passion. In his free time, he is involved in hockey.

The following skills are being offered by this farm. While you’ll get exposure to many of these areas, it is likely that not all will be covered. Apprentices will work to identify the skills they want to develop through a learning plan with the host farm.

Skill required of the apprentice

Katerynych family farm is looking for apprentices with the desire, curiosity, and passion to learn, think creatively, be self-motivated, to learn hands-on regenerative farming. Basic tractor-driving skills are an asset.  Apprentices must have attire for work on a farm.

Housing, Stipend, and Duration

The apprenticeship will run from April/May until the end of October/November. Students are welcome to apply.

Wage depends on experience starting at min-wage – 15$ an hour.

There is a 4 season house with several bedrooms with bathroom and laundry facilities that will be shared with David half-time during the bust season.

Apprentices are responsible for their own meals.

Pets are not allowed.
