Have you been dreaming about launching a farm business or adding to your existing operation? The Food Pedalers, a microgreens business in Vancouver B.C., is now for sale! Read on for more info and reach out to info@foodpedalers.ca if you’re interested.
The Food Pedalers started in 2009 as an urban microgreens project by Chris Thoreau and was incorporated as a workers’ co-operative in 2013. Since then the Food Pedalers have sold over 30 tons of microgreens and delivered them by bike across the city to dozens of restaurants, grocers, and households while also cycling and car-sharing our way to local farmers markets over 1000 times.
Urban Farming is difficult in Vancouver at the best of times and the current COVID-19 situation and a pending eviction from our long-term production site in East Vancouver have proven too much for the Food Pedalers to handle. As of March 18 we have ceased operation and are now looking for someone new to take over production.
The Food Pedalers produce over $150,000 of microgreens annually in their unique shipping container greenhouse, allowing climate control for year-round production. The Food Pedalers production system helped pioneer small-scale microgreens production across North America and the current system and infrastructure has the potential to produce $250,000 or more of microgreens annually. The use of shipping containers for both the greenhouse (40ft X 8ft) and processing center(20ft x 8ft) makes this a transportable system, ready to begin its new life elsewhere.
If you are interested in starting microgreens production or adding microgreens to your current farming operation, then this could be the opportunity you have been waiting for. Along with the infrastructure, the Food Pedalers can train you in their system, making this a turn-key operation which can start generating revenue in as little as 10 days.
Included in this package:
– 40’ x 8’ shipping container greenhouse with shelves, electrical panel, lights, heat, and fans
– Trays (200-300), seeds (~300 kg), and soil (16 yards)
– Clamshells – 3 sizes (200-300)
– Two weeks of intensive training
