You’re invited to a farm tour and potluck at Bar VI Ranch near Langruth, Manitoba!
Bar VI Ranch is a host farm in the Young Agrarians Apprenticeship Program that runs a holistically managed grass-fed cow/calf operation with a focus on soil health. Operated by Kris and Clorissa Egilson, they are the fourth generation to manage this 1600-acre ranch and bring a passion for regenerative agriculture and direct marketing quality products to their community. After going through the Holistic Management Canada Accelerator Program, they became the first farm in Canada with Land to Market Certification.
At this farm tour, they will talk about the Land to Market Certification, the Holistic Management practices they implement at the farm, and the Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV) program they are participating in. Kris will also discuss the Canadian Meat Board he founded to help solve the gap in the marketing and distribution of local, grass-fed beef directly to consumers by farmers. According to Kris:
“After many years researching how to ranch regeneratively, the main barrier I experienced was the lack of market access to our grass fed beef. To solve this issue I have founded the Canadian Meat Board, which will help market and distribute local meat directly to the consumer. I feel producers like myself should pool their resources in the areas of marketing and distribution to improve market access to their sustainably raised products. The Canadian Meat Board will be working with local entrepreneurs, students and producers to help solve this marketing problem while keeping the product costs low by cutting out the middle parties. The use of digital technology with in-person experience will create the strong connections needed for prosperous communities and businesses.”
Join us for an afternoon of learning, and stay for a potluck meal. We can’t wait to see you there!

About Bar VI Ranch
This century old farm was established in 1907 by Kris Egilson’s grandfather who immigrated to Canada from Iceland. Starting in 2013, Kris and his wife Clorissa, along with their two kids Lochlan and Adelyn, became the fourth generation to manage this 1600- acre ranch.
Bar VI is a cow/calf operation with an intentional focus on soil health for the last 5 years. With a passion for regenerative agriculture, Bar VI Ranch went through the Accelerator Program offered by Holistic Management Canada (HMC) and became the first farm in Canada with Land to Market Certification. The farm also participates in the HMC Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV) program and offers on-farm training opportunities.
Bar VI markets long yearlings in the fall and has been steadily growing their direct market grass fed beef business fulfilling their long time dream of providing their community with farm to table beef from their family farm.
