THE TOURS

Saturday, September 16, 2023

10:00 am – 1:30 pm – Triple Lyoness Farm Tour + Lunch Potluck: Dapp, AB

The day will start at one of Alberta’s long-standing family-operated farm businesses to hear from Rod & Janet Olsen about their land brimming with biodiversity. Learn about their multi-species operation as part of their regenerative farming practices.  BBQ will be provided by hosts; please bring a dish to share.

4:30 pm – 7:00 pm –  Good Note Community Farm Tour + Harvest Festival (+  Pizza Potluck Supper): New Sarepta, AB

The second stop on Saturday is at Good Note Community Farm. A diversified community Farm sharing food-producing knowledge with families and individuals from nearby cities and acreages.  The tour is happening during their Harvest Festival, an afternoon of live music & dancing, followed by a pizza potluck. Please bring pizza toppings or a side dish. Bring your own plate, cutlery, and cup for snacks/refreshments. Live music starts at 2pm. There is a ‘pass the hat’ to show appreciation to the performers, so please bring cash if you can.  Camping is available onsite – please contact Maryann Borche for more information.

Sunday, September 17, 2023

10:00 am – 1:30 pm – Grey Arrow Farm + Lunch Provided: Camrose, AB

At the tour’s final location, we will meet a young farm family.  Andrea and Denis, along with their five children, are growing clean, healthy produce for their CSA, restaurant, and community.  We will tour their 2.5 acres of cultivated land on their beautiful 35-acre oasis in the Alberta prairies,  where they are growing 55 types of vegetables and herbs.  Stay for a vegetarian lunch provided by the hosts.

ABOUT THE FARMS

TRIPLE LYONESS FARM
Treaty 6 territory

Triple Lyoness Farm is a family-run and operated farm by the three Carlyon daughters; Andria, Jessica, Briana, and their parents, Rod and Janet Carlyon. Their family is proud to produce pasture-raised beef, chicken, turkey, free-range pork, and eggs.  As a Young Agrarians apprenticeship host farm, the Carlyon’s hosted two apprentices this season who were involved in the day-to-day operations of the farm.  You will get to hear firsthand what it is like to work in regenerative agriculture from the apprentices and Carlyons themselves.  See more of the good work they are doing on Triple Lyoness’ Facebook page. To read more about their regenerative farming practices, head over to their website

GOOD NOTE COMMUNITY FARM
Treaty 6 territory – amiskwacîwâskahikan ᐊᒥᐢᑲᐧᒋᐋᐧᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ

Good Note Community Farm is a diversified Community Farm, sharing food-producing knowledge with families and individuals from nearby cities and acreages.  They care for dairy cows and goats and have a flock of chickens and ducks. They practice permaculture techniques and are looking to increase their perennial fruit and nut crops in the years to come. The Community Gardens provide families with practical skills and a place for family bonding. Their skill-building workshops and farm camps programming are on-going. Check out Good Note’s Facebook page for more information on their events and workshops.

GREY ARROW FARM
Treaty 6 territory

Grey Arrow Farm grows approximately 55 types of vegetables and herbs over 2.5 acres of cultivated land on their beautiful 35-acre oasis in the Alberta prairies. They are situated on a serene lake, with paths and forest groves, and a Saskatoon berry orchard to enjoy. Their farm is just a 10-minute drive to Camrose and a 45-minute drive to the city of Edmonton. They are partnered with a number of local artisan coffee shops and businesses (in both Camrose and Edmonton) where they distribute their produce bundles to their members each week.  You can check out Grey Arrow’s Facebook page here and Instagram here.
