A Bit About Our Presenters
Cameron Bell:
Cameron has over 6 seasons of production experience, and is finishing his third year farming in the Skeena Valley. His experience managing a high tunnel in Ontario and working for an agricultural consulting and contracting firm supported his progression in protected culture and controlled environment agriculture when he started his business in Terrace. He has managed educational gardens and youth farm programs, and trains new staff at his operation every year.
Jolene Swain:
Jolene has been producing vegetables and saving seed in the Kispiox Valley since 2015. Her experience as an organic verification officer and Land Matcher with Young Agrarians contributes to her ability to communicate information to farmers. Her seeds are for sale locally and through the BC Eco Seed Coop.
Vicky Serafini:
Vicky is the owner and operator of Thimbleberry Farm, located in Terrace, BC. The farm’s operations include a market garden, pastured poultry, rabbit meat, and laying hens. Thimbleberry Farm is a small-scale, no-till farm, where just under 30 varieties of crops are grown with limited mechanization. Fertility is built on the farm through mulching, composting, and raising animals in conjunction with growing vegetables, herbs, and fruit. Thimbleberry Farm attempts to create a balanced agro-ecological system that encourages both plants and animals to thrive.
Jonathan Knight:
Jonathan Knight has been farming organically in the Kispiox Valley since 2009. Jonathan is also an accomplished baker and miller with a past bakery, True Grain Bread on Vancouver Island, as well as co-coordinated the establishment of the Skeena Bakery in New Hazelton.
Jacob Beaton:
Jacob Beaton has been growing food in the northwest for many years, and farming with his family at Tea Creek Farm for the past 3. A recipient of the BCAF Indigenous Business Award, he leads a team coordinating training programs and production at the farm. Their mechanized approach to field production is one of the largest operations in the region, and roughly 10,000 lbs of potatoes were harvested in 2021.
