Meet Trent Romanow of Cluck and Clove Farm!

Please share a bit about yourself and about your farm. What do you grow or want to grow?
Trent Romanow (he/him), father of 3 boys 3, 5 and 10. My partner Katie and I have a 40 acre farm, Cluck and Clove Farm, just west of Edmonton. We have only 1 acre in production. We are growing garlic, which will be our main crop, we also have laying hens for eggs.

Tell us how you became interested in growing food.
Growing up my parents had a large garden with our favorrite veggies. Later my partner and I always grew some of our own food. 

What stage are you at in your farming career?
 I followed Young Agrarians on Facebook for some time and saw a post just after we decided to purchase a farm. We have one season into our farming career

What motivated you to take the Bootcamp? 
It just made sense to take part in the boot camp as part or the learning process to farming.

 

What are you most excited about from the Bootcamp?
Creating a business plan.

Where are you at now after taking the Bootcamp?
We have one season farming using the business plan and other financial tips I learned. 

What were you most surprised by?
The amount of physical labor needed and always troubleshooting many issues that arise daily.

What did you think of the format of the course?
Perfect for a beginner to follow along with.

 

 

 

Tell us about any connections you made with people outside of the scheduled calls.
I often check in with the Audley Family Farm(Kieth and Stacey).

What are your next steps?  
To gain a Mentor. 

 What is your long-term vision?
To become financially stable with just the garlic crop and value-added products. While improving the pumpkin patch and Market Garden.

What inspires you to put in the work of starting a farm?  
My family and contributing to the community.
