ABOUT THE FARMER

Allison is looking for land where she wants to produce grass fed, ethically raised meat goats (boer/kiko x) as well as Icelandic sheep and a bit of pasture raised chickens and pork.

Allison is an experienced business person with a human resources background and a lover of animals. She has a BA in Anthropology and Certificate in Animal Welfare.

She is currently on 10 acres east of Kelowna with 15 goats, 12 sheep, broilers, 10 hens, 4 LGDs and 3 border collies. She is raising primarily meat goats (boer/kiko) and Icelandic sheep, and in the summer, raising pastured broiler chickens.

Allison would like to expand her operation and is seeking 50+ acres of land to purchase or lease (with potential option to purchase). She would ideally like to be in central BC but is open to the Columbia Basin / Kootenays as well.

Allison hopes to grow her current herd of 15 meat goats to 50 in the next 2 years and to 100 in 4 years. She plans to grow her Icelandic sheep herd from 10 to 30 in the next 2 years and to 60 in 4 years. Currently, for birds Allison is raising 100 broilers a season and wanting to increase to 200. Allison will direct market products to local individuals and groups, with the goal of later partnering with a box program and market.

LAND REQUIREMENTS

Allison is looking for land with a lease of a minimum 5 years, ideally long-term, on a preferably fenced 50 acres or more.  If the land isn’t fenced Allison has the ability to do so. If the land has fallen into a poor state, she is happy to help regenerate the land with her knowledge gained from the Savory Institute’s Holistic Management program.

It would be beneficial if the property had three sided shelters and a barn sized appropriately for her livestock but she can also build shelters if need be.

A tractor on the property would be helpful but Allison is also willing to purchase one if need be.

While Allison is building her systems and livestock numbers she would like to crop share for hay having either the owner or a neighbor make the hay.

Allison is interested in implementing regenerative farming and holistic management of the land.
