Located in the heart of wine country, this thriving 2.9-acre farm is ready to be taken over by a new farmer! H & L Farm has been sustainably producing fresh food for the local community in Okanagan Falls since 2015.
The farm has produced everything from veggies, herbs and fruit to mushrooms, flowers and eggs. The current farmers (who are also the landholders) have previously sold through a CSA program, farmers markets and wholesale, but are now looking to pass on the torch to a new farmer, while continuing to live on the land.
The available growing space is about 2.5 acres, including irrigated plots for ground crops, an orchard, two greenhouses (one about 1,000 square feet, and the other half that size, both irrigated) and a chicken coop with a few laying hens. The orchard features around 100 trees, including apples, cherries, peaches and prunes, all about five to six years old and producing well. There is additional grassy space available, and framing is up for a third greenhouse, if the incoming farmer would like to expand production. The irrigation system could be extended to other areas of the property, as needed.
The property is fully deer fenced, and there is a barn and tool shed available for use. No pesticides or herbicides have been used on the land recently, and the soil is fertile, with thick topsoil and good agronomic potential.

This is an excellent opportunity to step into an established mixed farm operation and starting farming right away! The landholders are open to lots of ground crops and other types of production, and would especially welcome someone who can take over management of the fruit trees.
There are some farm tools and equipment – including a rototiller – which will be available for the incoming farmer’s use. In addition to the barn and tool shed, there is also a cooler room with a window air conditioner, which could be used to store fruit and vegetables.
To facilitate the transition, the landholders are willing to provide some mentorship to help the farmer get established on the land. They are also happy to help out with turning on water and other small tasks, as needed. In recent years, the landholders have mostly sold wholesale, and they could pass on these contacts to the incoming farmer, if desired.

This is a great opportunity for farmers who are starting out and would value developing their growing skills on an established farm, with some support from the previous farmers. The ideal candidate for this opportunity would be community-minded and cooperative in nature.
Given that the landholders will continue to reside on the property, good communication and a positive relationship will be key for this opportunity.
