ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to take over a turn key market garden plot in the Trout Creek area of Summerland, BC. This 1.5 acre plot has been farmed by Jerome Gagne of Medley Organics for the past 6 years. He is moving on to a larger property on which he can grow tree fruit in addition to his row crops. It is certified organic and has been all laid out in 100 ft beds. The lease for the land is $3000/year and includes power and water, for irrigation and washing. Jerome has grown $50-$70,000 worth of produce on this land consistently. The soil has been built and amended yearly and is now very fertile and easy to work. The area also includes 22 trellised table grapes. Plenty of storage space in a shared barn and tool shed. There is a garlic/onion drying area in the barn.

The goal is to pass this on to a new farmer who will continue with the farm and upkeep of the land. The work around developing the land, systems and infrastructure has all been done,  so you will save start up expenses and plenty of labour.

It comes with everything you need to run a successful farm operation. A walk in cooler. $3500. Wash Station and Pack House building : $2000. Picture below. 20 ft long waterproof shipping container for valuables : $3000.

ABOUT THE CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is respectful, energetic and has a love for the land and the ability produce quality healthy food. You have experience planning and managing crops. You are creative, observant and professional.

You have most likely owned your own market garden farm, managed a farm for a few years or at least worked 3 years on a farm and you understand that farmers can make money farming efficiently, choosing the right crops and keeping good records.

The lease timeline is open for negotiation, but the land owner would like to see a successful farm business working the land long term.
