ABOUT THE LAND
Bordering the Shuswap River in the community of Grindrod, this turn-key, certified organic farm is available for lease!
Roots and Greens Farm has been in operation for 23 years, and the entire 11.7-acre property is now available for lease, with nine acres of space suitable for production. The growing space is split into two distinct areas: about five acres of market garden space (with greenhouses) and four acres of fenced pasture. Under the landholders’ consistent care, the farm is currently producing: carrots, blackcurrants, raspberries, strawberries, melons, squashes, beets, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, garlic, sweet corn, onion, herbs, lettuce, and green onions, and more – all at once!
The close proximity to the Shuswap River provides reliable and plentiful access to water. The market garden area is equipped with underground 3-inch pipes that connect to hydrants with 2-inch access points for sprinklers, and the system is powered by a 7.5-horsepower pump off of the Shuswap River. There are two pumphouses – one for the main irrigation system, and one for the house, greenhouses, and wash station. The latter pumphouse is insulated and protected from freezing, and provides UV-treated and filtered water.
The property also includes a barn with a full tack room and a chicken coop with an outdoor run that could comfortably house up to 15 chickens. The livestock spaces connect to an outdoor run, which leads the animals into the five-acre pasture space for free-run grazing. Also included are two insulated rooms for crop storage, an 11-by-15-foot walk in cooler, a full crop washing station, a heated hoophouse for seed starting, and three large hoophouses fitted with irrigation.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a turn-key operation, meaning everything is in place for the incoming farmer to jump into production! The property could support many types of livestock, including chickens, sheep, goats, or a couple of cattle – or, the incoming farmer could transition the pasture space into additional growing space.
The produce from the farm is currently sold through direct-to-consumer subscriptions and relationships with multiple food vendors and grocery stores in the Okanagan. The landholders have also successfully sold at farmer’s markets in the past, which the incoming farmer could consider.
There are lots of tools and equipment that may be available on-site, including a 34-horsepower Kubota tractor and a 47-horsepower Kioti tractor. There is also a large storage building for winter storage of equipment, vehicles, and tools, plus a separate workshop space.
This opportunity also comes with housing! There is a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home on the property that the incoming farmer(s) could rent.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for this operation would have some experience running a farm, managing a farm business, and operating farm machinery and equipment. The landholders are interested in a trial period to start, with the potential for extending into a long-term lease for both the farmland and the farm business.
The ideal candidate would be prepared to continue managing the farm as a certified organic operation, but the types of production and focus of the farm are open to change.
This opportunity is a rare gem in the Okanagan – with housing, all equipment, and a functioning business all available for lease. If you are interested in stepping into this turn-key farm and getting started, don’t hesitate to reach out!
