B.C. Land Matching Program British Columbia Land West Coast - Islands

LAND OPPORTUNITY: 8 Acres of ALR Land for Mixed Livestock or Market Gardens – Coombs, BC

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

This land was first cleared and fenced in the 1990’s, when the landholder’s family established a venison farm. In the years since, the land has been used to grow hay, board horses, and graze cattle. Today, much of the original 10-foot fencing is still in place, and the land has been fertilized by generations of livestock. The landholder would now love to see the space used to support local food security!

The fields on this property are flat and open, with excellent sun exposure, and the soil remains well-drained throughout the year. There is a seasonal creek that runs through the large main field, but it runs dry by late spring, so it is not suitable for agricultural use.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The established cross-fencing and wide open fields at this site provide an excellent opportunity for livestock or vegetable production. Above all, this landholder is looking to connect with experienced, independent farmers who value sustainable land management and ethical animal husbandry practices.

While the landholder is open to an incoming farmer living on-site, there is currently no additional housing available. Farmers would be welcome to bring a tiny home or RV onto the property!

It is also important to note that this site has limited water access, with only a shallow residential well on site. As such, an incoming farmer must be prepared to drill a new well on the property or bring in supplementary water.

Curious about what funding is out there to support agricultural water infrastructure? The Investment Agriculture Foundation offers an Agriculture Water Infrastructure Program that is designed to support producers in improving their agricultural water supply.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate would be an experienced livestock producer who is ready to start or expand a farm operation. Due to the limited water available on the property, this opportunity would be most appropriate for a producer who is prepared to make a plan for water access (such as drilling a well or bringing supplementary water).

Given that there are no accommodations available, this opportunity would be best suited to a local farmer planning to live off-farm, or a farmer who can bring their own RV or tiny home.

If this sounds like you and you’re looking for land in the mid-island region, don’t hesitate to reach out!
